These can prevent pressure build up inside your barrel with its unique spring loaded exhaust vent, by relieving pressure inside your barrel can reduce the risk of splitting or cracking of your barrel, particularly if any fermentation is occurring inside the barrel.
all new purchased barrels now have metal threads, pre April 2025 the barrels were supplied with plastic threads and these are not interchanagble.
