Introducing the 10L Virgin American White Oak Barrel — now featuring a stunning 6mm tempered, lead-free glass head so you can watch every stage of the ageing process in real time. No guessing. Just pure, visible oak magic.
Crafted from select American oak with no liner or bladder, this barrel delivers an authentic ageing experience from the very first use. Finished with a natural light food-grade exterior varnish, available with black or stainless steel bands to suit your preference.
Featuring a medium char, the barrel imparts a refined balance of toasty richness and subtle smokiness, drawing out notes of vanilla, caramel and gentle oak spice to elevate your chosen wine, port or spirit.
At 18–20mm thick, the oak staves are significantly superior to the 10mm staves found in many competing products. This added thickness reduces the risk of leaking, minimises unwanted leaching and extends the overall lifespan of the barrel.
The 10L capacity promotes faster maturation, allowing your wine, port or spirit to develop depth and character without the long wait. Whether you're enhancing a home bar or elevating your craft, this barrel is built to deliver an exceptional and repeatable flavour experience — and now, you get to watch it happen.
Because the glass head replaces one oak head, you can expect aging to run approximately 20% slower than the times shown in our aging chart. The upside — the glass also reduces the angels share, meaning less evaporation and more spirit in your glass when it's ready to pour. A small trade-off for something that looks this good on your bar.

VIRGIN OAK vs RECOOPERED (recycled) OAK
Virgin American Oak means that these barrels are constructed from unused brand new virgin American oak and then given a medium interior char which helps pass on the flavours of the oak and char to your liquor. These barrels typically impart stronger oak and char flavours compared to recoopered barrels which we also stock.

A "recoopered barrel" refers to a barrel that has been refurbished. The term "cooper" comes from "cooperage," which is the craft of making barrels. Our recoopered barrels have been reconstructed from larger 200-300L barrels, the process involves breaking them down into smaller staves, assembling new steel bands, shaving back the oak to expose fresh oak and re charring. Resulting in essentially a brand new barrel, but still able to pass on the flavours from the previous liqour held along with subtle notes of oak and char. Resulting in a very unique flavour profile.
Our American Oak range is recoopered from ex Bourbon or Sherry barrels, whereas our French Oak range is recoopered from red wine barrels.
